Panasonic A101 Review

On March 18 2004 during the CeBIT show in Hannover Panasonic announced their innovative A10x of mini mobile phones. The series includes Panasonic A100, Panasonic A101 and Panasonic A102 models that are only different in terms of design and all share the same key characteristic - they are really tiny.

The Panasonic A100 has more classic look and comes in three colours - Red, Blue and Grey while the Panasonic A101 is more sporty in style having Yellow and Red (Pink) colour schemes and the elegantly looking Panasonic A102 featuring Black or Silver Blue colours.

Why to call a device that has no colour screen, no GPRS or even WAP innovative, you ask? Because it is incredibly small, smaller than an average credit card in footprint and in addition it is also featherweight. The Panasonic A101 measures just 77 x 44 x 17.8 mm and Weighting just 66 g with battery one can hardly feel it in the posket. Besides, it is so easy to conseal which might come useful some day!

Amazingly this little thing is a fully functional Tri-band GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900 MHz mobile phone that even supports SMS and EMS (Enhanced Messaging Service) mobile messaging.

The monochrome LCD display of the Panasonic A101 is 112 x 64 pixels in size and it is bright and clear and stays readable even outdoors. If however you need both a phone that is small and lightweight and a colour screen - take a look at Panasonic G50, Panasonic G51E and Panasonic G51M phones that are slightly larger and heavier but have a full colour 4096 colours display.

Battery life of this baby is truly amazing - with a standard 780mAh Lithium-ion battery it can hold up up to 8 hours of talktime and up to 230 hours in standby mode.

It also packs a lot of other features including T9® predictive text input and up to 250 contacts in the internal phone book (plus SIM memory), calendar, ToDo list, calculator and currency converter also featuring vibra alert.

On the Mobile Fun side it comes with 16 voice (chord) Polyphonic ringtone which is quite a lot for a tiny device like this and it also comes with an inbuilt melody composer and even two built-in games. Choose from among 20 built-in melodies according to your mood or create your own distinctive ring tone in rich, 4-tone polyphonic sound.

Size does matter, as they say! It seems that phones of the Panasonic A10x series are indeed the tiniest ones in the Candy bar Form factor on the market today so if you are going to surprise everyone around having the smallest phone ever or you just need a smaller phone with basic functionality - there is nothing better yet.
