Nokia 3108 Review
After the Nokia 6108, the Nokia 3108 is the second pen-based phone designed specifically for Asian markets. Released in the Q4 2003 it is based on the popular Nokia 3100 model with several added features. Not only it has Chinese-inspired design motifs based on a the futuristic warrior theme and themed wallpapers - "Storm Riders" (or Feng Yun in Chinese) and animated screensavers designed by a famous Chinese comic artist Ma Wing Shing but also it features handwriting recognition in both Chinese and English (Latin).
Based on the Nokia Series 40 platform the Nokia 3108 is a Tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz phone, so if unlocked it can be used on any GSM network not only in Asia but in Europe and the Americas too. It also supports GPRS 3+1, 2+2 (class 6), HSCSD and WAP 1.2.1, SMS and MMS mobile messaging and xHTML browser. PC connectivity via InfraRed (IrDa) interface. It has also Nokia Pop-Port™ interface and supports Java™ J2ME™.
The hadnwriting recognition functionality (both Chinese and Latin) is enabled by its built-in touch pad and an easy-grip stylus hidden under the flip keymat. The keymat (keypad) itself also works both in Chinese and Latin characters for convenient message sending.
It is equipped with a high resolution colour display with support for 4096 colours 128 x 128 pixels. It has an average for this class size and weight of 106 x 46.4 x 24 mm, 84cc, 93g (with stylus) and it is available in Silver and Orange design styles. With Li-ion 760mAh BL-4C battery it supports talktime of up to 6 hours and up to 360 hours standby time. Although it has no built-in camera, the Nokia 3108 supports PT-3 Nokia Fun Camera available in Accessories.
The Mobile Fun side of the Nokia 3108 includes the new pre-installed game called Empire Mahjong along with other Java applications and games, Lunar Calendar, an enhanced phonebook, themed wallpapers, and 16 voice polyphonic ringtones, animated screensavers. It also supports dovnload of ringtones, logos, wallpapers and Java Games.
