Motorola MPx200 Review
Released in November 2003 the Motorola MPx200 (AKA V700) ODM-developed by Chi Mei Communications the Motorola MPx200 is a Microsoft Windows 2002 powered Smartphone, combining elegant design with the power of a Windows PDA. On paper it looks pretty much like the Orange SPV e100 but the Motorola MPx200 is a much more feature-rich handset, and it is a lot better looking.
The feature set is impressive - this Tri-band phone supports GSM 900/1800/1900 with WAP 2.0, WAP Push and GPRS(4+1) and a clear 165x220 65k colour TFT display. While 32 Mb RAM and 32 Mb ROM are just about enough but with its impressive expandability the storage memory can be increased up to 1Gb using SD/MMC memory cards, which should finally be sufficient for just about everything you could ever need.
Powered by Windows Smartphone 2002 OS with its good integration with Microsoft Outlook (SMTP/POP3), Windows Media Player, Pocket Internet Explorer and other Microsoft applications the Motorola MPx200 offers a Windows-style PDA in a clamshell phone. Syncronisation is possible via an in-built infrared (IR) port. People, or businesses, already used to using Windows-based PDAs should be able to adapt with little problems.
In terms of performance, however, the Windows Smartphone software is as controversial as ever. Previous Smartphone models that had not been very numerous anyway suffered from short battery life caused by the ever hungry Operating System. Thanks to the latest improvements by Microsoft the Motorola MPx200 has a talktime of 3.5 to 5 hours and 116 hour standby, which is better than earlier models but still leaves some room for improvement.
