Motorola MPx100 Review
The Motorola MPx100 is an entry level smartphone opening the line of Windows Smartphone 2003 based phones by Motorola. Announced on the the 24 of February 2004 during the 3GSM congress in Cannes together with other Smartphone 2003 mobiles (see als Motorola MPx220 and Motorola MPx Review) it is a stylish, good looking device that not only looks better than the competition, but also technically superior to most of them.
Aesthetically it is much more pleasing than somwhat chanky Orange SPV e200 or O2 Xphone and in technical terms it outperforms both of them. With quite a vivid resemblence to the Sony Ericsson T610 and Sony Ericsson T630 with the large screen and camera, it however leaves them both far behind in terms of features especially due to its 1.3 megapixel flash-equipped camera. It seems, however that the Motorola MPx100 is going to be sligtly more expensive than the competition.
The Motorola MPx100 is a Tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 mobile phone with 32 Mb ROM and 32 Mb RAM that can be expanded with SD/MMC memory cards to up to 1 Gb (more in the future). With the large 165x220 pixel 65k colour TFT display and 1.3 megapixel camera with an inbuilt flash it clearly outruns the competition. It also supports Bluetooth and infrared (IR)connectivity as well as WAP 2.0, WAP Push and GPRS(4+1). The powerful built-in Windows Mobile 2003 OS provides great compatibility with Microsoft Office applications, email support (SMTP/POP3), web browsing with Pocket IE and Windows Media Player as well as unlimited voice recording support.
Having all these impressive features in a very attractive and stylish shell the Motorola MPx100 is promising to be the first truly mass-market Windows Smartphone 2003 mobile phone. The drawback however is that it is not a gaming platform as Java Games simply will not run on this device.
Pricing and delivery dates are to be confirmed, but we expect to see the Motorola MPx100 some time in late 2004.
