LG U8120 Review

These days 3G users are getting more and more choice and now, LG came with a LG U8120 which is an improved version of their LG U8110 model aimed to present a budget silution for 3G users. Being in many respects similar to the predescessor the LG U8120 features larger memory amount of 32Mb for storage, applications and games as well as more attractive design.

The LG U8120 (also known as the LG-8120) is a fully functional Dual mode 3G and GSM mobile phone supporting both WCDMA (UMTS) and Dual-band GSM 900/ GSM 1800 MHz and GPRS class 10. Mobile connectivity is supported with SMS, MMS, Picture and Video Messaging with SMIL, IMAP4/POP3 email. The LG U8110 also supports Java - MIDP 2.0 and PC connectivity via USB cable, PC Sync, SyncML OTA and Infra-red (IrDa).

Equiped with a 1200mAh Li-Ion battery the LG U8120 shows a remarkably good talk time up to 140 Min (WCDMA) and 180 Min (GSM) and standby up to 120 hrs (WCDMA) and 150 hrs (GSM) with video call time of up to 100 mins.

What makes the LG U8120 to stand out from the row of other 3G phones is that it is extremely compact and lighweight. With the size of just 95.7 x 49.5 x 22.5 mm and weight of 120g (with Battery) it compares well with GSM clamshell phones while most 3G are substantially larger.

It also features a rather good LCD backlit display 35 x 44 mm (2.2"), 176 x 220 pixels, 65,535 (65K) colours, 16bit as well as a secondary backlit 7 colour LCD sub screen. Video and photo functionalities are supported with an integrated VGA 640 x 480 pixels resolution Video Camera and VGA Still Camera with 2 x stage digital zoom and built-in light. The camera is a 180 degrees rotating unit allowing to take shots and video from different angles and making it easier to take self portraits.

In-built applications include Diary, Contacts and Task Management and with 32 Mb of internal shared memory and Java MDIP 2.0 support it provides a good platform for applications and Java Games.

It also features advanced multimedia capacities with Quickplay streaming, download capture and playback of video and supports all 3G video mobile services including video calling, video messaging and download video clips.

Little useful features of the LG U8120 include speakerphone and an Avatar address book allowing cartoons of friends and family to pop-up on screen every time they call. In addition to standard Mobile Fun features the LG U8120 also can play MP3 filesand supports streaming video.
It also supports 3G GPS Locate services from 3, A to B, Quick Map and Find allowing you to locate easily you current position and display in on the map on the screen.

The LG U8120 is certainly a good debut for LG on the 3G market providing a solid and inexpencive solution for 3G users.
